The Murdered Judy Brown

The Murdered Judy Brown
Parsippany, New Jersey

28-year-old Judy Brown was discovered deceased on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 5, 1983 at around 1:00 p.m., slumped over in the front seat of her red 1973 Ford Maverick. Her vehicle was locked and parked in the lot of the Arlington Shopping Plaza, nearest to the “Beefsteak Charlie’s Restaurant” on Route 46 in Parsippany, New Jersey. This restaurant is now closed.
Her body was found to be covered with the blanket she normally kept in the trunk of her car. She had been shot twice with a “small shotgun” at point blank range, once in her chest and once in her abdomen. The shots were so close that they left “powder wounds” on her body.
Her keys were missing from the scene and the weapon was not present either.
Judy was last seen alive by her coworker the day before, on Tuesday, January 4th at their place of employment, Bell Atlantic in Ledgewood. The coworker says it was after 5:00 p.m. According to the manager of the Beefsteak Charlies, he had seen Judy’s car parked in the same spot when he was leaving work at 12:30 a.m. on the night of January 5, which would be over 7 hours since she was last seen. He said he assumed the vehicle belonged to a guest at a hotel close by.
Judy’s husband Peter had reported his wife missing at 8:35 a.m. on January 5 after spending much of the night calling relatives and friends to figure out if anyone had seen her. It was a police officer who located her car.
Peter was interviewed and he did own shotguns but they were confiscated and tested.
Judy Brown’s murder remains unsolved.
