The Murdered Travis DiCapua
New Brunswick, New Jersey

23 year old Travis DiCapua and a few of his friends were spending time at Marita’s Cantina in New Brunswick New Jersey, on Thursday, November 20, 2003. Around closing time that night, the group of friends walked to Paterson Street and Spring Street where their vehicles were parked. Travis and his friend Jason (Jay) Redecki split from the group and walked into one of the small parking lots together, to reach Jay’s car. They were then accosted by three men standing next to a black, four door Honda. They were demanding money. Words were exchanged, and one of the men pulled a handgun out of the trunk and fired two gunshots. Both Travis and Jay were hit. All three men swiftly got into the Honda and fled.
Travis was pronounced dead at the hospital, and Jay had been admitted for a gunshot wound but lived. Travis’s cause of death was “a single gunshot wound to the chest and abdomen.”
Travis attended North Plainfield High School and was a gifted athlete. He is remembered fondly by family and friends, and the Class of 1998 started a scholarship fund in Travi’s honor, so a student athlete will be able to attend college after graduating from the school.
Travis DiCapua’s killer is still out there, and his case remains unsolved.
