The Murdered

On Thursday, July 8, 1993, 37-year old Betty Conley was found shot to death inside of the Xtra-Mart 24 hour convenience store on State Route 67 and Peaceable Road in Charlton, Saratoga County, New York. She was working a midnight shift at the store, as she had been doing for the last few weeks.
At around 2:10 a.m., an unidentified individual entered the store and shot Betty once in the back of the head with a 9mm handgun. The murderer also stole about $100 from the cash register. It is unknown if Betty spoke to the killer. The store had a security camera, but it wasn’t one that could record footage to be played back. Regardless, the perpetrator knocked it down and broke it.
At 3:00 a.m., a customer walked into the Xtra-Mart and found Betty dead on the floor behind the counter. The police were notified.
Witnesses told authorities they saw a white man that looked 30 to 35 years old, around 6’ 2” with a medium build, wearing a peach colored tank top, clean shaven face with shoulder length blonde hair, in the area at the time of the murder. They also mentioned a mid 1980’s white 4 door sedan with rust on the driver door that was partially painted over with primer, sitting in the parking lot.
The Xtra-Mart was open to the public shortly after the murder, and any DNA or fingerprints that could have been left by the perp was contaminated.
Betty’s daughter Linda was 17 years old at the time and she was at a sleepover at a friend’s house when the incident occurred.
Betty’s husband, Bruce, was interviewed by police many times and passed a polygraph test. His personal gun was examined and tested, but the bullet that killed Betty didn’t match. He had several vehicles but none matched the description of the one last seen near to the crime. Linda wants to clear her father’s name, and bring justice to the person who took her mother from her all those years ago.
The Xtra-Mart no longer exists, but the store’s parent company still stands by their offer of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of Betty’s killer.
