The Murdered
Iva Kindred Tice
Allentown, Pennsylvania  

On November 17, 1981, 79 year old Iva Kindred Tice was discovered brutally murdered inside the bedroom of her home at either 627 or 629 North Main Street in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She was found at 12:40 p.m. in her night clothes, lying on her bed. There was a fire poker from the family living room found on the floor next to the bed, but there was no blood on it.
Investigators said there were signs of a struggle between Iva and her attacker. Her bed was in a state of disarray and an autopsy revealed that she had marks on the palms of her hands that indicated Iva tried fighting back. The autopsy also revealed that Iva had been struck on the head with the fire poker but it was not the murder weapon. Iva had been stabbed in the neck several times with what was determined to be a large carving knife. It was not located.
She had been staying home alone at the time, due to her husband Herbert being hospitalized after having a stroke and double pneumonia on November 10. In fact, Iva was last seen alive at the hospital he was staying in. She visited the hospital every afternoon to be with her husband while he recuperated. One afternoon, Iva did not show up. No one was able to reach Ida by phone. The Allentown Police were called and a welfare check was conducted. 
Of note: It was also said the screen for Iva’s bedroom window was found undamaged, outside on the ground below the window itself.
Iva was first thought to have interrupted a robbery. One article states that Iva’s purse strap was located in the room, but the purse was nowhere to be found. Two dresser drawers were pulled out and dumped onto the floor. 
Later on, it was theorized that Iva may have been targeted by someone she knew. Another chilling theory is that the killer may have had assistance in the attack.
Iva Tice’s murder remains unsolved.
