The Murdered John Jeff
Jamaica, Queens, New York
On Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 3 o’clock in the morning, a 28 year old off-duty New York City corrections officer named John Jeff was shot and killed right after leaving a party with a female friend and coworker in Springfield Gardens, Queens New York. John was the passenger of a black Chevy Malibu that was briefly pulled over by a fire hydrant on Ridgedale Street. They realized the road ahead was obstructed due to a garbage truck. They attempted to reverse, but couldn’t go far. Two other vehicles, a black Mercedes and a blue BMW pulled up and blocked the opposite direction, keeping the vehicle boxed in and unable to move.
John then exited the car to ask the people in the other vehicles behind them if they could back up. The people in the Mercedes began arguing with John, so he announced that he was a cop and pulled out his handgun. The Mercedes then reversed and drove around the corner. Jeff got back into Malibu.
Soon after, their vehicle was blocked a second time by a white Nissan Infiniti. It is said that someone from one of the remaining vehicles walked up to the passenger window of the Malibu. Jeff opened the door and got out of the car once more. Some type of altercation began, and he was shot 8 times, one of the bullets hitting him in the head. The perpetrators immediately fled the scene.
John was rushed to the hospital but passed away from his injuries at 3:37 a.m. It was determined through analysis that the bullets were fired from two different guns. Investigators believe John may have been shot with his own gun after being shot with the killer’s gun. John’s holster was empty and his firearm has not been found.
