Fifteen year old Jakeem Tully lost his life in a tragic drive-by shooting on July 20, 2008, outside a convenience store on Albany Avenue in Hartford Connecticut. Jakeem, an aspiring computer tech, loving big brother, and athlete, was heading home after visiting his girlfriend when he was shot twice and rushed to the hospital by two good Samaritans. Sadly, he didn’t survive. Investigators later learned he was not the intended target, but an innocent teen caught in the middle of a violent gang feud. His mother, still grieving the unimaginable, remembers him as a good kid who simply ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hartford Police identified persons of interest but received little cooperation, and the case remains unsolved. Jakeem’s family, community members, and advocates continue calling for justice and an end to violence that has devastated too many families.
