Barbara Jean Kemp was just 19 years old when her life was tragically cut short in December 1976. A resident of Phoenix, New York, Barbara was described as bright, independent, and full of life, with dreams of seeing more beyond her small hometown. On the night of December 5, she was last seen leaving the Hard Hat Tavern near Baldwinsville after spending the evening with friends. She never made it home. Two days later, her body was discovered along Great Bear Road in Volney, near the former Miller Brewery plant. She had been stabbed multiple times, wrapped in fabric, and left on the roadside. Despite an extensive investigation, no arrests were ever made, and her case went cold. For nearly five decades, Barbara’s family, friends, and community have continued to seek answers, hoping that renewed attention, advances in forensic technology, or someone finally coming forward will bring justice and closure to her case.
