Kristin O’Connell was a 20 year old college student from Burnsville, Minnesota, described as kind, beautiful, and an “old soul” who loved nature, horses, and meaningful conversations. In August 1985, she traveled to Ovid, New York to visit a young man she had met months earlier. On the night of August 14, Kristin left a gathering around 11:00–11:30 p.m. to take a walk along a dark rural road, something she often did to clear her head. She was seen walking barefoot and did not appear distressed, but witnesses later reported hearing a scream near a nearby cornfield. Kristin never returned. Two days later, her body was found in that cornfield; she had been brutally murdered. 40 years later, despite witnesses, evidence, and ongoing advocacy by family and supporters, no arrests have been made. Ovid was a small town, and many believe someone knows what happened. Kristin’s case remains open, and her family continues to seek answers, justice, and closure.
