In June 2008, the life of Tanya Rush, a 39 year old Brooklyn mother of three, ended in a brutal and still-unsolved crime when parts of her body were found inside a black suitcase near the Southern State Parkway in North Bellmore, NY. Struggling with addiction, Tanya turned to sex work but was known by those close to her as a devoted, loving mother. After the 2023 arrest of Rex Heuermann in the Gilgo Beach serial killer case, investigators are taking a fresh look at her murder due to striking similarities: Tanya was a sex worker, her remains were dumped near a Long Island highway, and the route connects to areas tied to the accused killer’s longtime home in Massapequa Park. Though Heuermann has not been officially charged in her case, police believe Tanya was likely killed outside Brooklyn and continue to urge the public to come forward. More than 15 years later, her family and loved ones are still waiting for answers, and justice. 🕯️🔍
