The Murdered
Rosetta Jean-Baptiste
Ramsey, New Jersey

đď¸ A Life Cut Short: The Unsolved Murder of Rosetta Jean-Baptiste đď¸
On the morning of December 10, 1993, 18 year old Rosetta Jean-Baptiste was found dead in Room #2 of the Maple Shade Motel in Ramsey, New Jersey, in a case that remains unsolved decades later. An autopsy ruled her death a homicide caused by âmechanical asphyxiation from ligature compression to her neckâ and revealed she was nine months pregnant with a baby boy, news that devastated her family, who were unaware of the pregnancy. Rosetta, a quiet and reserved 11th grade student at Ramapo High School, had immigrated from Haiti with her family three years earlier and lived in Spring Valley, New York. She was last seen checking into the motel on the evening of December 9 with an unidentified man described as a light-skinned Black male in his 30s or 40s, stocky, about 5â8â to 5â9â, and weighing 200â220 pounds. Despite composite sketches and early investigative efforts, no suspect was ever identified, and the lack of evidence caused the case to go cold. Her murder deeply affected her family and community, and investigators continue to hope that new information may one day bring justice for Rosetta and her unborn child. đ
