The Murdered
Sister Catherine Ann Cesnik
Baltimore, Maryland

🕊️ The Unsolved Murder of Sister Catherine Cesnik 🕊️
Sister Catherine Ann Cesnik, a Roman Catholic nun and teacher in Baltimore Maryland, disappeared on November 7, 1969, after leaving her apartment to run errands. Her decomposed body was discovered nearly two months later, on January 3, 1970, at a dumping site in Lansdowne, Maryland. Investigators believe she was abducted near her residence, forced into her car, driven to a remote area, assaulted, and killed by blunt force trauma; her car was later found parked near her home. Over the decades, the case has remained unsolved despite extensive investigation, DNA testing, and placement of evidence into the FBI’s CODIS database, which has yielded no matches. Former priest A. Joseph Maskell, accused by former students of sexual abuse and long suspected by some to be connected to sister Catherine’s death, was exhumed in 2017 for DNA testing, but results did not link him to the crime scene, though police emphasized this did not definitively exonerate him. This murder became widely known through survivor allegations, renewed investigations, and the 2017 Netflix documentary The Keepers. It remains a haunting case that investigators believe can only be solved if new witnesses with firsthand knowledge come forward.
