The Murdered Margaret Fetterolf aka Woodlawn Jane Doe

The Murdered
Margaret Fetterolf aka the Woodlawn Jane Doe
Baltimore, Maryland

💔 Justice for Margaret Fetterolf 🧬

On September 12, 1976, the body of a young woman was discovered along Dogwood Road near Lorraine Park Cemetery in Woodlawn, Baltimore County, marking the beginning of a decades-long mystery. Known for nearly 50 years as “Woodlawn Jane Doe,” she was found beaten, sexually assaulted, strangled, and bound, with evidence suggesting she had been killed elsewhere and transported to the scene. Over the years, investigators pursued countless leads, from sketches and pollen analysis to links in Massachusetts and New York, and even theories involving institutional settings due to sedatives found in her system. Breakthroughs in DNA technology ultimately transformed the case, and in 2021–2023, advanced testing with the help of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Bode Technology identified her as Margaret Fetterolf, a 16-year-old habitual runaway from Alexandria, Virginia, who went missing in 1975. Born in Japan to a U.S. Army sergeant and survived by family members, Margaret’s identification has brought answers and renewed hope that those responsible for her murder may finally be held accountable.
