🕊️ Remembering Charles “Chuck” Pitts Jr. & Mahari Pullins 💔

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on October 27, 2013, 17 year-old high school senior Charles (Chuck) A. Pitts Jr. was tragically stabbed to death outside of a party on South Clinton Street in Syracuse, New York. A student athlete at Corcoran High School, Chuck’s life was cut short following several fights that reportedly broke out at the gathering. Police charged 19 year old Jose Calderon with second-degree murder, and investigators stated that he, along with 16 year old Gilberto Rodriguez, stabbed Chuck at the end of the party. Although multiple altercations occurred that night, Chuck was the only person who lost his life.
Just seven months later, on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2014, tragedy struck the family again when Chuck’s stepbrother, Mahari Pullins, was shot and killed in the 100 block of Alexander Avenue in Syracuse. Authorities have said they do not believe Mahari was specifically targeted and have not identified a suspect. His murder remains unsolved. Family members shared that Mahari had hoped to leave Syracuse following the devastating loss of his brother.
