Florence Lemler

🕯️ The Tragic Death of Florence Lemler 🕯️

On May 16, 1972, 55 year old Florence Lemler was last seen around 5:00 p.m. at the Syosset, New York School District offices, where she worked as a librarian. She never returned home to her residence on Flower Street in Valley Stream, New York.
Later that evening, her car was discovered with a flat tire on the west shoulder of the Seaford–Oyster Bay Expressway, just south of the Wallace Drive exit in Plainview.
Approximately five and a half hours after she was last seen, Florence was found in a wooded area on the east side of Pond Road between Sunrise Highway and Oakwood Avenue in Bohemia, Suffolk County.
She was fully clothed and had been fatally stabbed multiple times in the chest. Her shoes and purse were missing, though she was still wearing an expensive ring valued at $1,500. Police reported that there was no indication of a sexual assault. Over the years, authorities have considered the possibility that serial killer Richard Cottingham may have been responsible for the crime, though the case remains a subject of investigation and speculation.
