The Murdered
Helen Marie Sikes
Queens, New York

🕊️ Tragic Fate of Helen Sikes 💔
Helen Sikes, a 19 year old runaway from California, disappeared from Times Square, New York, in January 1979. Days later, her body was discovered on January 14 at 89th Street and 23rd Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens. She had been stabbed in the throat and her legs had been severed and placed a block away.
Helen’s death quickly became part of a wider investigation. Taxi driver Barry Weisberg, who knew Helen, was charged in January 1980 in connection with her killing at a Woodside motel, but he was acquitted by a jury on June 1, 1981.
In later years, investigators and researchers linked Helen Sikes’ case to other victims, including Deedeh Goodarzi, and to the crimes of Richard Francis Cottingham. Although Cottingham was never charged or convicted for Helen Sikes’ murder, many believe she was among his victims. The case remains unresolved, leaving lingering questions and a life cut tragically short. 🕯️
