The Murdered
Jocelynn Carr
Midtown, New York

🕯️ Tragic NY Murder 🗽
Jocelynn Carr, 32, was last seen on the evening of October 20, 1964, after leaving her residence that she shared with her mother and stepfather at 1059 First Avenue in New York, NY, around 7:00 p.m. to meet for a date she never arrived at. Employed at the Compton Advertising Agency on Madison Avenue, Jocelynn’s disappearance soon turned into a grim and baffling case when, the following day, portions of her remains were discovered at several locations across midtown Manhattan. Investigators found her torso beneath a stairway leading to a basement on West 43rd Street near Tenth Avenue, her legs discarded inside a green suitcase near Ninth Avenue and West 35th Street, and her arms beneath a metal staircase on West 28th Street, west of Ninth Avenue. A close examination of the remains found no knife or gunshot wounds, theorizing she may have been strangled. Her head was never recovered, and authorities described the dismemberment as crude, suggesting the use of a serrated knife. Her case became one of three chilling dismemberment cases that autumn, alongside the November 15 discovery of the remains of Carmen Rodriguez (also known as Carmen Muñoz), a woman whose torso, head, and right arm were found in a weed covered lot in the Bronx, her limbs also appearing to have been sawed off. Despite extensive investigation, Jocelynn’s cause of death remained undetermined, and her killer has not been found. This case remains one of New York City’s most haunting unsolved mysteries.
