Desiree McGraw, a 27 year old mother of two from Maple Shade, New Jersey, was tragically found shot to death on June 6, 2006, behind the Jericho Fire Company on Mail Avenue in Deptford Township, just hours before the building was set to open as a polling place for the primary election. A firefighter discovered her partially clothed body near the pine trees surrounding the station, and authorities determined she had died from a single gunshot wound within 12 to 24 hours prior. Investigators later classified her death as a premeditated murder, ruling out robbery as a motive while exploring other possibilities, including her struggles with addiction and time spent in Camden City.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office has continued to investigate the case for nearly two decades, eliminating some suspects but still urging the public to come forward with any information that could bring answers. An $8,000 reward remains available for tips leading to an arrest and conviction. Desiree’s father Fred McGraw, who spoke to the media every year until his death in 2012, and her sister Jennifer, have never stopped honoring her memory, holding annual vigils at the site where she was found and reminding the public that Desiree was more than her struggles: she was a deeply loved daughter, sister, and mother who hoped to turn her life around.
