❄️ Unsolved Since 1982: The Murder of Veronica “Roni” Hepworth 🕊️
On the freezing morning of February 25, 1982, in Loudoun County Virginia, the life of 20 year old Veronica “Roni” Hepworth came to a tragic end. Around 7:00 a.m., a passerby driving to work discovered her partially clothed body lying in a driveway just off Route 50, about a quarter mile east of Route 15 near Gilberts Corner, and contacted the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. The scene left a lasting impact on the first responders who arrived that morning, one of those moments that, as many in law enforcement say, is never forgotten.
Roni had last been seen alive just hours earlier, around 1:30 a.m., at the now-closed Fancy Dancer Bar on Route 1 in Fairfax County. She had been celebrating a friend’s birthday with a group of friends. To this day, investigators do not know whether she left the bar alone and may have hitchhiked, or if she left with someone else. Roughly five and a half hours later, she was found dead in rural Loudoun County.
Over the years, investigators from the Virginia State Police and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office have continued to pursue leads. Witnesses reported seeing a red pickup truck, possibly a late 1960s or 1970s model, near the farm where Roni’s body was discovered. Authorities have also released an age-progression composite sketch of her last-known serious boyfriend, a white male with dark hair who would now likely be in his mid-50s to early 60s. Neither her family nor investigators have been able to identify him, and he remains a person of interest in the case.
Despite the passage of more than three decades, Roni’s murder remains unsolved. Her loved ones continue to hope for answers, not only for justice but for closure. Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators, as even the smallest detail could finally bring resolution to a case that has endured far too long. 💔
