The Missing William Meehan

The Missing
William L. Meehan
Case #: 0142158 (New Brunswick Police) #: 00-3288 (Belmar Police)
Middlesex County

William Meehan was 32 years old when he was last seen driving his silver four-door Oldsmobile 88 leaving MacLearie Park on April 28, 2000. He was heading northbound on Highway 35 in Belmar, New Jersey, after abandoning his brother, Peter, on the side of the road in MacLearie Park for reasons unknown. It is stated that William was going through personal and job related problems at the time, and Peter suggested the two go to Belmar and spend some time at the beach to talk about Will’s personal issues. The brothers had grown up spending summers in Belmar and Peter thought the sight of the ocean would cheer William up.
They traveled from East Brunswick together and as they reached MacLearie Park, Will pulled over. Peter stepped out of the vehicle to take in the view of the ocean. As soon as Peter turned his back, William locked the car doors and drove off heading north on Route 35, leaving Peter stranded.
Not wanting to involve their parents, Peter assumed William wanted to work out his problems on his own, and he decided to walk back home to East Brunswick. When Peter started walking at 4:00p.m, he didn’t make it home until 10 a.m. the next morning, and was surprised when William had not yet returned home with his car.
William’s family thought he would be back home within a few days, so they did not notify the authorities until a week later on May 5th.
The Belmar Police Department tracked Will’s credit card usage and found activity on his AT&T calling card on May 4th. Unfortunately, law enforcement was unable to track it. According to The Coast Star newspaper, it was “because calling card calls are logged through the 800 number that was dialed to place the call.” (I was confused with this, but it seems as if Will had some kind of pre-paid phone?)
William’s vehicle was later found to be involved in a hit-and-run accident on Route 22 in Green Brook, New Jersey, and he left the scene. He has not been heard from since. William is a Caucasian male, 5’10” in height, 205 pounds and has sandy colored hair. He was wearing a pink and gray shirt size 36, blue jeans and white “Avia” brand sneakers.
There are no further clues to his whereabouts.
