The Missing
Sigfried Woelki
Hackettstown, New Jersey
Sigfried (Sig) Woelki was 31 years old when he was last seen at between 5 and 5:30 p.m. at a Krauser’s food store in Hackettstown New Jersey on October 4, 1982. He had a conversation with his friend that worked there, telling them that he “had some business to attend to” and that he would return to his home in a few hours. That was the last official sighting of Sig. He is a white male with brown hair and either gray or brown eyes, standing at 5’9” to 6’1” and weighing 190 to 200 lbs at the time. He usually wears glasses. His date of birth is listed as April 4, 1951.
He was living in the Towpath Apartments in Hackettstown with his girlfriend. He worked as a butcher at the North Jersey Packing House on Bartley Road in Long Valley, NJ.
Later the same evening he was last seen, between 8 and 9 p.m, Sigfried called his father from the Packing House and asked if he could come meet him there the next day at 6 p.m. to help him wrap some meat. His father agreed. He reported that Sig sounded normal during the phone call. This is the last confirmed contact with Sig.
The owner of the Packing House, Brent Seugling, arrived the next day at 5:15 p.m. Sig’s vehicle was still in the parking lot. It was unlocked and the driver’s side window was rolled halfway down. The glove compartment was open, and his house keys plus the keys to the Packing House were gone and have never been found. The owner also noticed that the Packing House was still locked and the burglar alarm was set. Sig’s father arrived as planned, but after talking to Brent and realizing his son was missing, the police were notified around 8:00 p.m. on October 5th. A search of his vehicle, the Packing House, and the surrounding area came up with no clues. There was no sign of a struggle. Of note, Sig was a wrestler in high school.
The Packing House was eventually torn down and it was said that workers during demolition were on a close watch for human remains but none were located.
Sigfried Woelki’s case is still unsolved.
