The Missing
Sabrina Kahler
Erie, Pennsylvania
Sabrina (Bree) Mae Kahler was 20 years old when she vanished on June 24th, 2002 after leaving her home in Erie, Pennsylvania to go swimming with her 26 year old friend David Sherman Heck. David was dating and living with Sabrina’s close friend at the time.
Sabrina is mildly disabled, having the mental capacity of a 14 year old. She graduated from East High School in 2001 where she took special education classes. She is described as kind, accepting, but too trusting and very naive. Sabrina is a white female with dark blonde hair that had just been cut short, blue eyes and braces on her teeth. She stood at 5’2” and weighed 125-135 lbs at the time. She was last seen wearing a two piece bathing suit, possibly a dark pink/red top, blue shorts and blue and white sneakers. Only one of her ears is pierced.
Sabrina and David went to a swimming hole at Eagley Park. During their swim, they had a confrontation with David’s ex-girlfriend, so they decided to leave. They then drove in David’s black and red Ford Bronco to the Tasty Twist Ice Cream Stand, where David called the police about the incident. A state trooper responded to the call and escorted the two back to Eagley Park, where David gave a pair of pants to his ex that belonged to her, then he and Sabrina left.
The events of what happened after this are unknown. David claims he last saw Sabrina when he gave her money and dropped her off at the West Erie Plaza Movie Theater. He says she was heading to see Lilo & Stitch. Police do not believe this story.
There were two unconfirmed sightings of David and Sabrina that day, one on Old Albion Road in Springfield Township, and the other witness claims to have seen Sabrina alone at the Elk Creek Access area, a local fishing spot that was quite popular with locals. Unfortunately, it was never determined if this indeed was Sabrina or just another person who resembled her.
David Heck was put in jail over burglary charges after Sabrina disappeared.
Sabrina’s case remains unsolved.

It is coming up on “Bree’s” 43rd Birthday and the 23rd anniversary of her disappearance. There is a void this has been left without her in our hearts and lives. What type of Mother or Wife would she have been? What profession would she be in by now? Bree was wonderful with my kids, and she would be a great Aunt now. All of these unanswered questions continue to haunt me/us as the years go by without any answers, no closure has come to our family. Wishing you a Happy 43rd birthday, wherever you are.
Love, Sammie
