The Missing Alicia Markovich

The Missing
Alicia Markovich
Blairsville, Pennsylvania

Alicia Markovich was 15 years old when she was last seen by her mother Marcie on Sunday, April 26th 1987 at their home in Windber, Pennsylvania. She was picked up by her father, John Markovich, to spend the day together at his house on the 100 block of Dunn Avenue in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. John says they got into an argument about her school grades, her choice of friends, and her mothers request for an increase in child support. Alicia became upset and took off out of the house on foot. John called after her and yelled for her to be back home by 8pm. He believed she would go to a friend’s house in a nearby trailer park he used to live in, which was about 2 miles away. Whenever they would argue, she would go out and take a walk. This time, Alicia never came back.
Alicia is a white female with brown hair and blue eyes, standing at 5’2” and weighing 120 lbs at the time. She was last seen wearing a white crop top with three stripes, red, yellow, and blue, with jeans and white sneakers. She was carrying a pair of purple sunglasses when she left her fathers house. All of her other belongings were accounted for.
Marcie tried to call her daughter a few times that day to remind her she needed to be home early since the next day was Monday, a school day, but Alicia did not answer.
It wasn’t until 1:00 a.m when Marcie got a call from John, saying that when Alicia didn’t return at 8pm he went out looking for her but couldn’t find her. However, Alicia’s friend that lived in the trailer park, “C.G.” stated he never got a phone call or a knock on the door from John looking for Alicia.
Marcie insists that Alicia has no history of running away, and was not street smart. Eventually, authorities concluded that Alicia was probably murdered and it most likely occurred on the last day she was seen.
In October of 2000, John received a typed letter in the mail stating Alicia was killed and her body was buried in a certain place. The letter was postmarked New Bedford, New Hampshire and the return address was also from that same city. The police went to the address, and the people living there claimed they had not sent the letter and did not know who did. They were unaware of Alicia or her disappearance and had never been to Blairsville. The police also searched for Alicia’s body at the location written in the letter with search dogs, but nothing was found. It was determined that the letter was a hoax. Its author is still unknown.
In April of 2011, Alicia’s baby teeth were sent out for DNA profiling in order to compare it with the remains of “Penny Doe” who was found in Monroe Township, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1990. They had a lot of similarities but Alicia’s DNA was not a match.
There has been no activity on Alicia’s bank account or her social security number since 1987, and her case remains cold.
