The Missing David Mines

The Missing
David Mines
New York, New York

41 year old David Mines was last seen on the evening of Thursday, December 21, 1961 while he was traveling on a Greyhound bus heading to Toronto, Canada from his town of New York City. The next day, he called his sister from the Greyhound Bus Depot in Buffalo, NY to say that he was scheduled for a bus change, and that he would arrive that afternoon. His luggage arrived in Toronto but David was no longer on board the bus. There was one scheduled stop in Syracuse, NY, and it is theorized that he may have gotten off at this point.
According to family members, David was heading to Canada to visit his sister for her birthday.
He was described as a white male with hazel eyes and short black hair with a receding widow’s peak. He stood at 5’ 7” and weighed around 180 pounds.
He was an orthodox Jew and a Rabbi, and may have been wearing a grey suit with tzitzis (Jewish tassels,) a red tie, black shoes, and a hat with a “kippah” (a brimless cloth skullcap worn by Jewish men and boys) underneath it. He also wears round, dark framed eyeglasses.
His luggage contained his prayer books, but items like his wallet and passport were not located.
In a newspaper article, it states another Rabbi named Solomon Shapiro who was a Chaplain of the Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn NY, had seen and even spoken to David on January 19th, 1962. David was reportedly recovering after being in a state of depression.
His family believes he was a victim of amnesia or a psychiatric episode.
