The Missing
Denise Sheehy

16 year old Denise Sheehy was last seen leaving her family home in the Mets Apartment Complex in Woodside, Queens, New York after an argument with her mother on the night of July 7, 1970. It was her sister Lorraine’s birthday, so Denise and her mom were setting up the dining table in preparation for a special dinner once she got home. While they were working, Denise’s mother confronted her, claiming to smell alcohol on her breath. After she threatened to tell her father when he got home from work, Denise fled the apartment at 5:00 p.m. in a fit of anger.
A nearby neighbor witnessed Denise climb over a fence behind the building to exit the complex. She did not bring any personal belongings with her. She was reported missing by her parents the next morning after waiting for her to come home all night.
She has never been seen again.
Denise had a boyfriend at the time and she had talked to him on the phone earlier that day, as he was in Pennsylvania with family visiting a sick aunt. He did end up coming back to Queens to help in the search for her. Police have ruled him out as a suspect, and her family does not think he is involved either.
Denise is described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing at 5’2” and weighing 103 pounds at the time. She had pierced ears. She was last seen wearing blue shorts with a red and white top and white clog sandals. She always wore a gold ring with her initials “D.S” and a gold boys school ring, presumed to be her boyfriends.
