The Missing Steven Norman Chait

The Missing
Steven Norman Chait
New York, NY

20 year old Steven Norman Chait was last seen leaving his dorm room in Furnald Hall at Columbia University in New York, New York on March 13, 1972 and he had never been seen again.
Steven was very smart and was strict with himself about his grades. However, he had recently received a “C” in his engineering course and that shattered him. According to his mother, he became “moody” and when she would call and ask him how he was doing, he would only answer with the word, “living.” He switched the course from engineering to Historical Arts. He slowly became more withdrawn, often spending most of his days in his bed listening to music.
On the day he disappeared, Steven reportedly got up out of bed, said to his roommate “Goodbye, Take it slow,” and walked out with nothing but the clothes on his back, never to return.
Two days after he vanished, the roommate called Stevens parents, Harry and Gloria, to alert them that their son never came back. They attempted to make a missing persons report with the New York State Police, but they refused to file one, claiming that Steven was probably stressed over school and decided to take time to himself.
It is unknown when exactly he was officially reported missing.
Steven is described as a white male with brown hair and green eyes, standing at 5’10” and weighing 155 pounds. He usually wore a mustache and beard. He also wore glasses. He has multiple scars around his left eye.
