15 year old Mary Lou Bostwick disappeared from Waverly New York on July 17, 1972, just three days before her 16th birthday.
Mary Lou’s father reported that he drove her from their home in Athens, Pennsylvania and dropped her off at a friend’s apartment on Broad Street in Waverly NY to babysit. Three days later, Mary Lou’s mother arrived at the apartment with cake and gifts for her daughter. The occupants of the home claimed however, that Mary Lou never showed up. Suspiciously, Mary Lou’s extra change of clothes in a grocery bag that she brought with her were found to be inside of the apartment.

(I don’t understand how nothing came of this? No reason or explanation??)

Mary Lou has never been seen again. Her family does not believe she ran away from home.
There was another local girl named Sharron Coston that disappeared from Sayre, Pennsylvania in October of 1973. Days later she was found strangled and mutilated. A man named Gerard Paul McKenna was convicted of her murder. Although Gerard McKenna claimed his innocence, he was sentenced to death in 1974, but died in prison instead. Mary Lou’s mother believes Sharon’s murder and her daughter’s case are related.
One person claimed later that Mary Lou had been beaten to death during a party at a house in Sayre, but there was never any proof of this.
Mary Lou is described as a white female standing at 5’2” and weighing 120 pounds with shoulder length red hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing blue cut off jeans and pink sandals and glasses with dark colored plastic frames. She has a three-inch scar at the base of her spine. Two of her teeth have been extracted and she has no dental fillings.
Foul play is suspected in Mary Lou’s case.
