The Missing Barbara Jean Aleksivich

The Missing
Barbara Jean Aleksivich
Bath, New York

Barbara Jean Aleksivich was 24 years old when she vanished after leaving the Bath Elks Club located near Gansevoort and William Streets in Bath New York on October 3, 1973 at around 10:45 p.m. She was there with her husband but decided to head home early, and began her walk home, which was only two blocks away in the 100 block of east William Street. Her husband reported her missing after he arrived home and she was nowhere to be found.
She is described as a white female with brown shoulder length hair and hazel eyes, standing at 5’6” and weighing 140 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white blouse, a blue and white plaid skirt, a green pullover sweater, brown loafer shoes and eye glasses.
Barbara’s maiden name is Jones and she may also use the last name Flanigan.
A local man named Frederick C. Bush was considered a suspect in her case, as he was convicted of murdering a woman and burning her body some point after Barbara’s disappearance. He served his sentence and was living back in Bath. Police eventually announced that they no longer believed he was involved.
Another suspect, a man named Richard W. Davis was convicted of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing 5 year old Siobahn McGuinness in Montana in 1974. He lived on Main Route Road in Bath between 1973 and 1976, and possibly also from 1968 to 1981. He was believed to have been passing through Montana when he kidnapped the child. He reportedly was well known by Bath police for being accused of luring children and being arrested several times. He died in 2012 without ever being charged for murdering the 5 year old, and there has never been any evidence to indicate if Richard had anything to do with where Barbara went or what happened to her. She has never been found and her case remains unsolved.
