The Missing
Sylvia Alice Lwowski
Staten Island, New York

In September 1975, 22 year old Wagner College graduate Sylvia Alice Lwowski vanished after a night out in Staten Island, New York. She had gone to the old Island Movie Theater on Richmond Avenue with her fiancé, Charles Joseph Cirronella. According to him, the two argued in his car near the Kmart Plaza, where Sylvia threw her glasses against the dashboard, left the vehicle, and walked away. She was never seen again.
At the time, Sylvia was engaged, living in Great Kills, and described as responsible. Despite her parents hiring a private investigator, no leads surfaced. Her last known outfit included a white sweater, brown shoes, and an engagement ring.
Her brother, Joseph Lwowski, who was 16 when she disappeared, continues to seek answers decades later. Both of their parents have since passed away. DNA from a relative has been entered into the FBI’s database in hopes of identifying Sylvia if her remains are ever found.
Friends, including her best friend Mary Bushnell Giampapa, searched for Sylvia immediately after her disappearance but found no trace. Giampapa recalls Sylvia as her closest confidante, making the loss especially painful.
The case was never classified as a homicide and remains a missing person cold case. Joseph Lwowski still pleads for it to be reopened, saying, “I just want closure before I die.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
