On the night of January 11, 2006, 34 year old Bambi Lynn Madden left her home on Winding Way in Binghamton, NY around 11 p.m. to walk to a nearby convenience store. A short trip she’d taken many times before. She was last seen wearing a black puffy coat, black jeans, and black boots. But Bambi never made it to the store, never returned home, and has not been seen or heard from since.
Bambi was a loving mother of three, a grandmother, and the heart of a close-knit family she spoke with every day. Earlier that evening, she spent time with her sister Jackie and her daughter Christal, excited for an important custody hearing the next morning regarding her granddaughter Haley, a responsibility she was eager to take on. Her sudden disappearance shocked everyone who knew her.
Police searched local surveillance footage but found no sign that she ever reached the store, and extensive searches by family and investigators uncovered no trace of her. Despite having no known enemies and being described as warm, free-spirited, and deeply connected to her family, her case quickly went cold. Though foul play has never been confirmed, it has also never been ruled out.
Today, nearly two decades later, Bambi’s loved ones still hold annual candlelight vigils in her honor, and the city even declared January 11th “Bambi Madden Day.” Her family continues to hope for answers and closure as the mystery of her disappearance remains unsolved.
