The Murdered
Anita and Champaben Patel
Windsor, Connecticut

A Mother–Daughter Tragedy That Still Haunts Connecticut 😔
In March 1996, a horrific crime shook the town of Windsor, Connecticut. 54 year old Champaben Patel was attacked in her home, bound with duct tape, strangled, and set on fire. As the assault unfolded, her daughter Anita arrived with her two young children. Sensing danger, Anita urged the kids, just 3 and 5, to flee, and a neighbor soon found them and alerted police. Tragically, Anita was cornered in the kitchen, stabbed 14 times, dragged away from a sliding door she nearly escaped through, and ultimately died from smoke inhalation after gasoline was poured around her and ignited. Investigators believe the killer was familiar with the home, and although Champaben’s son, Jatin Patel, has long been considered a person of interest due to family conflicts and a weak alibi, no one has ever been charged. Nearly three decades later, the case remains unsolved, and authorities continue to seek answers.
