On March 21, 1996, a horrifying discovery shocked the community of Windsor, Connecticut.

Inside their family home, 54-year-old Champaben Patel and her daughter, Anita Patel, were found dead and both of their bodies had been burned.

What investigators uncovered was a scene of unimaginable violence.

Champaben was killed first. Investigators believe she was attacked in the bedroom. She was strangled.

Then Anita arrived at the home with her two young children, who were only 3 and 5 years old. Somehow, in the middle of the chaos, Anita realized her children were in danger.

She told them to get out. The two children ran from the house.

A woman walking to her mailbox found the frightened children and immediately called police, potentially saving their lives.

But Anita couldn’t escape. She was attacked in the kitchen and stabbed 14 times. Investigators determined that gasoline was poured around her body and set on fire.

Despite the horrific injuries, an autopsy determined that Anita ultimately died from smoke inhalation.

**Imagine being a mother, realizing your children are in danger, and using your final moments to get them to safety.**

Those children survived.

Their mother and grandmother did not.

Investigators have believed for years that the killer may have been familiar with the home. Despite the passage of nearly three decades, however, no one has ever been charged in the deaths.

Now, almost 30 years later, Champaben and Anita’s case remains unsolved.

How many years must pass before a family gets answers?
