In February 2005, Geetha Angara, a highly accomplished chemist and senior employee at the Passaic Valley Water Commission in Totowa, New Jersey, was found dead in a water treatment tank after going missing during a routine work task. An autopsy determined she drowned but revealed bruising consistent with a struggle, leading investigators to initially classify her death as a homicide likely committed by someone with authorized access to the tightly secured facility. Despite years of investigation, extensive interviews, and narrowed suspect lists among coworkers amid reported workplace tensions and resentment toward her success, no arrests were made and the case went cold. Alternative theories later emerged, including the possibility of a tragic accident caused by an unsecured tank cover, though Angara’s family strongly disputes this explanation. Comparisons were also drawn to a similar unsolved 1968 killing in a secure industrial site, but no definitive link was found. As of today, Geetha Angara’s death remains officially unsolved, leaving lingering questions about whether it was an act of violence or a fatal accident.
