Byard was found on his couch at midnight, having died from a single gunshot wound that went through his nose and exited under his ear. Yet police discovered no signs of forced entry, robbery, or struggle, and the weapon was never recovered. Despite his daughters being present in the house that evening, no one heard a gunshot or any sort of disturbance, leaving investigators unable to identify a suspect or motive. His death was ruled a homicide, but the lack of evidence left detectives baffled, and the case remains unsolved. A tragic end to the life of a profoundly influential artist. 🕯️
