Joan Rogers, a 39 year old mother of two, was last seen alive on the evening of July 15, 1977, after dropping her teenage son off at the Idle Hour Theatre in Hardwick, Vermont. She was supposed to return about an hour and a half later, but never arrived and did not make it home to her father’s house where she had been staying during a separation from her husband. When she also failed to show up for farm work the next morning, something completely out of character, her family reported her missing. A search began, and Joan was later found deceased in a field in Hardwick. Her death was ruled a homicide, and despite investigations by Vermont State Police, the case remains unsolved. Strangely, there was another strangulation death on the same day and in the same town, the victims name is Bernard Ewen. The two did not know each other and it is said that the two murders are not proven to be connected.
