The Murders of Grace and Gracie Reapp
Jericho, Vermont

🕯️ Missing & Unsolved: Grace & Gracie Reapp 🕊️
On June 7, 1978, Grace Reapp and her five year old daughter Gracie vanished from their home in Jericho, Vermont, after a note was left claiming they did not plan to return; a message only Grace’s husband, Michael Reapp, reportedly saw. Their sons, Brian and Patrick, were at school that day and returned home to find their mother and sister gone, with Michael later telling them they had gone on vacation, something the boys immediately felt was untrue. The disappearances were not reported to police until June 11, after Grace’s sister Juliana repeatedly called asking to speak with her. Just days later, Michael filed for divorce, citing desertion and “intolerable severity,” raising serious suspicions among Grace’s family, who insisted she would never abandon her children and reported she had been abused during the marriage.
Over the years, Vermont State Police, with help from the FBI, conducted multiple searches of the Jericho property, including excavations of the yard and garage areas, but no trace of Grace or Gracie was ever found. In 1996, the case was reclassified as a homicide, and shortly after learning police were digging at the property again, Michael disappeared from his Florida home, leaving behind most of his belongings. His truck was later found abandoned in New Orleans, and he was never seen again. In 2006, nearly three decades after Grace and Gracie vanished, Vermont authorities issued an arrest warrant charging Michael with first-degree murder of Grace and second-degree murder of Gracie.

In 2012, investigators confirmed that Michael had actually died years earlier, in January 1997, after a violent carjacking in Arizona ended in a police chase and a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He had been listed as a John Doe until fingerprint analysis finally identified him. Despite decades of investigation and more than 25 property searches, the bodies of Grace and Gracie have never been located. Police believe Grace was killed after discovering Michael’s affair and that Gracie was murdered because she witnessed the crime.
Grace and Gracie remain officially missing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Vermont State Police at (802) 244-8781 or the Williston office at (802) 878-7111. 🕯️💔🔍🕊️
