Iris L. Brown, a 28 year old woman from Burlington, Vermont, was last seen on March 15, 1976, when she left her apartment with William Posey, who claimed her boyfriend was being released early from prison and needed a ride. Iris never arrived and was never seen again. In 1981, Posey was convicted of kidnapping her and sentenced to life in prison, though her body was never found. Blood believed to be Iris’s was discovered in his car, but there was no proof of what happened to her until April 2008, when Posey confessed to strangling her after an argument and dumping her remains along Interstate 89 in Vermont. Despite renewed efforts, her body has never been located. For decades, Iris’s family lived in painful uncertainty, knowing who was responsible but not the details of her fate, or where she rests. 💔
