💔 Still Missing: Audrey Groat 💔

On August 21, 1993, 41 year old Audrey Groat vanished without a trace in Montpelier, Vermont. The Northfield mother of six had reportedly spent the day shopping in Burlington before being dropped off around 10:00 p.m. at the park-and-ride near Exit 8 to retrieve her pickup truck. When she failed to pick up her daughter later that evening, concern quickly grew. Her truck was soon found parked at the commuter lot with the keys locked inside, and her purse had been discarded in nearby bushes. Audrey was never seen or heard from again.
    Over the decades, numerous searches have been conducted in Montpelier, Middlesex, and surrounding wooded areas. In 2001, authorities even drained the Wrightsville Reservoir following a tip, but no evidence was found. Additional searches over the years, including one prompted by a tip about something suspicious in the woods, also turned up nothing. In 2012, bones discovered at a construction site in Northfield led to renewed attention, but they were determined to be more than 50 years old and unrelated to Audrey.
    At one time, Audrey’s boyfriend was considered a prime suspect, though he denied involvement and is no longer the focus of the investigation. Despite interviews with multiple persons of interest and the work of several investigators over the years, no arrests have ever been made. Foul play is suspected, and Audrey has since been declared legally dead. She has a gravestone in Middletown, Connecticut, where she grew up, but her disappearance remains unsolved.
Her daughters, four of whom were still minors when she vanished, continue to live with the pain of not knowing what happened that night. Each year, family and friends gather at the park-and-ride where her truck was found, holding onto hope that answers may someday come. Vermont State Police believe someone knows the truth and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Audrey’s case remains open. 🕊️
