🦋 She Could Have Been Anything She Wanted to Be…

Amy Drake could have been anything she wanted to be. She was only 18 years old, with so much life ahead of her and so many possibilities waiting to unfold.

Her story ends in tragedy, but Amy’s life deserves to be remembered for more than the way it ended.

This is a story about friendship, growing up in a small Maine town, the struggles that can change a life, and the future that Amy never got the chance to experience. It’s about the memories she left behind, the people who still remember her, and the unanswered questions surrounding her death.

On November 24, 2006, hunters made a heartbreaking discovery in a wooded area off River Road in Norridgewock, Maine. They found Amy’s remains, more than a month after she had disappeared.

She was just 18.

💔 The Disappearance That Left a Family Searching

Amy’s mother, Norma, last saw her daughter on September 20, 2006. Amy frequently spent time at her boyfriend Jason Forbus’s home on South Factory Street in Skowhegan, so it wasn’t unusual for her mother not to see her every day.

Even so, Norma generally heard from Amy by phone.

This time, the silence was different.

Amy had reportedly left without a change of clothes and had left her purse behind. After four days without a phone call or any word about her whereabouts, her mother became concerned and reported her missing to the Skowhegan Police Department.

For more than a month, Amy’s whereabouts remained unknown.

Then, on November 24, hunters discovered her remains in the woods of Norridgewock, just a few miles from the Skowhegan town line.

The search for a missing teenager had become a homicide investigation.

Years later, Amy’s case remains unsolved. Authorities have interviewed a suspect, but no resolution has brought the answers her loved ones deserve.

🕊️ A Life Changed, But Never Defined by Addiction

Amy’s story includes struggles with substance use. It’s an important part of understanding the challenges she faced, but it should never become the only thing people remember about her.

Before those struggles, Amy was a spirited, adventurous teenager who loved bringing her friends along for the ride. According to her childhood friend Jason Dickerson, she was someone whose memories could transport you back to a simpler time, growing up in Maine before social media changed the way young people experienced the world.

Addiction may have changed parts of Amy’s life, but it did not erase her personality, her friendships, or her worth.

She deserved compassion. She deserved support. And she deserved the opportunity to heal.

It’s impossible to know what Amy’s future might have looked like. Perhaps she would have recovered, built a family, pursued a career, or used her experiences to help someone else navigate addiction. Maybe she would have become a source of hope for another young person who felt lost.

Those possibilities were taken from her when her life ended at just 18.

Amy was more than the struggles she faced. She was a daughter, a friend, and a young woman whose story was still being written.

💗 Keeping Amy’s Memory Alive

When Amy’s childhood friend, Jason Dickerson, shared his memories, the story became about more than an unsolved murder. It became a reminder of childhood friendships, small-town adventures, and the people who shape our lives long before we realize how much those memories will mean to us.

There is something deeply moving about looking back at the person someone was before life became complicated. The jokes, the adventures, the friendships, and the ordinary moments that seemed endless at the time can become some of the most precious memories left behind.

Amy deserves to be remembered in that way, too.

Not simply as a young woman whose remains were found in the woods. Not simply as a name on an unsolved case list.

But as Amy, a teenager with a personality, a history, people who cared about her, and a future that should have been hers to live.

Her story is a reminder that behind every cold case is a real person whose life mattered, and a circle of loved ones who may still be waiting for answers.
