The Missing
John Francis Lango
Pottsville, Pennsylvania

John Francis Lango, a 17 year old high school senior disappeared from his home on Schuylkill Avenue in Pottsville, Pennsylvania on New Years Day, January 1, 1988 at midnight. He reportedly got into an argument with his girlfriend Kristen about where they were going to celebrate the new year, so his girlfriend left. Later at home, John was drinking with friends when an altercation took place. The authorities were called. At some point afterwards, John was said to have received a phone call and then he left in a dark colored vehicle, possibly a Monte Carlo or a Chevy Caprice, with some other people to either go to a bush party or to go to the store. He never came back home and hasn’t been heard from since.
John is described as a white male with red hair and blue eyes, standing at 6’1” and weighing 185 pounds at the time. He was wearing a red and white dress shirt, a gray wool jacket with blue jeans and white Adidas brand sneakers. He has a burn scar on his upper right arm.
John was considered well liked by his classmates at Pottsville Area High School and he was close with his family. His grades were average, and he enjoyed break dancing.
One friend of John’s stated that about a year before he vanished, John had started to become introverted and shut down. His loved ones don’t think John would have run away from home. His brother Timothy remembers that John wasn’t one to go out without checking in with his family. He left behind his favorite pair of Adidas sneakers. His social security number has not been used. His case remains unsolved.
