Still Missing: Kirk Quintons — Never Forgotten 💔
On September 18, 1983, 11-year-old Kirk Quintons left his home in the Bronx, New York, on what should have been an ordinary Sunday afternoon. A seventh-grade student at Intermediate School 174, Kirk was sent by his mother, Lila Quintons, to buy a can of soda from the Top Tomato Supermarket on Rosedale Avenue, just two blocks from their home. Like many times before, Kirk planned to stop by the store where he earned extra money sweeping floors, packing boxes, and doing odd jobs. He often saved his earnings, spending only a little on trips to the movies.
Kirk was last seen around noon collecting bottles from a vacant lot near the supermarket at 831 Rosedale Avenue. He was wearing Levi’s blue jeans and blue-and-white sneakers. Standing 4’9″ tall and weighing approximately 70 pounds, Kirk had black hair, brown eyes, and a small scar on the left side of his body from previous stitches. Tragically, after that afternoon, he was never seen or heard from again.
When Kirk failed to return home that evening, his family immediately began searching for him before contacting police. Investigators found no indication that Kirk had run away or had any reason to leave voluntarily. Authorities classified his disappearance as a non-family abduction. In the weeks that followed, reports of possible sightings brought brief moments of hope, but each lead ultimately led nowhere. One widely reported sighting turned out to be Kirk’s own twin brother.
The impact of Kirk’s disappearance devastated his family, especially his twin, who struggled emotionally and academically in the aftermath. One of six brothers, Kirk left behind a family that has spent decades wondering what happened to him. Despite the passing years, they have never stopped searching or hoping. In 2013, age-progressed images were released showing what Kirk might look like as an adult. Seeing those images, his brother Darryl remarked that the face looked a little like his own. Holding on to hope inspired by other long-missing children who were eventually found, Darryl shared a heartfelt message: “Kirk, if you can hear us, we’re still here looking for you.”
More than four decades later, the mystery of what happened to Kirk Quintons remains unsolved. His family continues to seek answers, and his case remains open. Though time has passed, Kirk is not forgotten. He is still loved, still missed, and still being searched for.
