“Tiana Doe”

🕯️💜 Essex County Jane Doe: Waiting for Her Name to Come Home 💜🕯️

On March 3, 2018, an unidentified woman was discovered in the waters of Weequahic Park in Newark, New Jersey. She was a Black woman between the ages of 18 and 40, standing approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing around 133 pounds. Due to the condition of her remains, it is believed she may have been deceased for weeks or even months before she was found. Authorities suspect her death may have been the result of an accident, but the circumstances surrounding her life and how she came to be there remain a mystery.

For eight years, she has been known as Essex County Jane Doe or “Tiana” Jane Doe. While her name has been lost, several details may still connect her to the people who once knew and loved her. She had short black hair and distinctive tattoos that could hold the key to her identity. On the right side of her neck were three stars, while the right side of her chest bore a purple flower with green leaves. Investigators noted that the flower appeared to be a cover-up tattoo, concealing the cursive name “Tiana” underneath. Whether Tiana was her own name, the name of someone she cherished, or part of a story known only to her remains unknown.

Every unidentified person leaves behind unanswered questions, and this young woman is no exception. Somewhere, there may be family members, friends, or loved ones who have spent years wondering what happened to her. Though she has remained nameless since 2018, her life mattered, her story mattered, and she deserves to be remembered as more than a case number. The hope remains that one day someone will recognize the details she left behind and help return her name, her identity, and her story to the world.
