The Nameless
Medford, New York Jane Doe (1994)

๐ She Had a Name. Someone Is Still Missing Her. Help Bring Medford Jane Doe Home.
On the morning of December 7, 1994, a heartbreaking discovery was made along Long Island Avenue in Medford, New York. Inside a discarded blue Rubbermaid garbage can were the remains of a young woman who has never been identified. More than 30 years later, she is still known only as Medford Jane Doe. While her killer was identified and brought to justice, she has never gotten the one thing she deserves most, her name back.
Investigators believe she was a White/Caucasian woman between 20 and 30 years old, standing approximately 5 feet to 5 feet 1 inch tall, with brown or reddish-brown hair, brown eyes, and weighing somewhere between 104 and 135 pounds. She had a scar in the center of her right calf, but perhaps her most recognizable feature was a tattoo on her upper left shoulder of a red heart with a banner displaying the name “Adrian.” She was wearing a black J.J. Cochran halter-style crew neck top size XL and was found with a Hilton Hotel bathmat.
For decades, investigators searched for answers. Eventually, authorities determined that she was one of the victims of serial killer Robert Shulman, who confessed to taking her life in the fall of 1994. Although he admitted responsibility and was convicted, he never revealed who she was. Her family, if they are still searching, may have spent decades wondering what happened to someone they loved.
Today, advances in genetic genealogy have provided investigators with new hope. They have determined that she was likely of Western European ancestry, with at least 75% of her ancestry tracing to England, Scotland, and Wales. Along with these discoveries, forensic experts have released updated facial reconstructions, revised composite sketches, and an enhanced rendering of what her tattoo likely looked like while she was alive, hoping that someone will finally recognize her.
After more than three decades, investigators believe that even the smallest piece of information could be the key to restoring her identity. Perhaps you remember a young woman who suddenly disappeared in the early or mid-1990s. Maybe you knew someone with a heart tattoo bearing the name “Adrian.” Or perhaps you’ve heard a family story about someone who was never found. What may seem like a small memory could finally provide the answers this case has been waiting for.
Behind the name “Jane Doe” was a real person. She had a life, dreams, memories, and people who may still be searching for her. She deserves to be remembered as more than an unidentified victim. She deserves to have her name spoken again.
