🔎🖤 35 Years Without a Name — Who Was He? 🌆
On May 30, 1989, an unidentified Black man was found unresponsive on the southbound platform of the C train at the Columbus Circle/59th Street subway station in New York City.
More than three decades later, his identity remains unknown.
He had a face, a life, a history, and people who may have known and loved him. But today, he is still known only as an unidentified person.
🔎 WHAT WE KNOW
The man was estimated to be between 25 and 40 years old at the time of his death. He was approximately 6 feet tall and weighed about 125 pounds.
He was a Black/African American male with black, curly hair approximately two inches long. He also had a full beard and brown eyes.
Investigators documented a distinctive approximately 2-inch linear scar, described as a needle mark, on his right forearm.
His remains were reportedly recovered in a recognizable condition, and all parts were accounted for.
📍He was discovered on May 30, 1989, on the southbound platform of the C train at the Columbus Circle/59th Street station in Manhattan.
His case was eventually entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as #UP9698.
The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner lists the case as M89-04799.
🕯️ It has been more than 35 years since this man was found.
Somewhere, there may be someone who remembers a relative, friend, coworker, neighbor, or acquaintance who disappeared or suddenly stopped coming home around 1989.
Someone may recognize his appearance. Someone may remember the scar on his right forearm. Someone may have information that could finally connect this unidentified man to a name and a family.
For more than three decades, he has remained unidentified. But he deserves more than a case number. He deserves his name. He deserves to be remembered.
And the people who loved him deserve to know what happened to him. 🕊️
