🔎 The Disappearance of Jeremy Ted Alex
🚨 Missing Since: April 24, 2004
On April 24, 2004, Jeremy Alex was in the Northport, Maine area while moving belongings to a new home on Harbor Road.
According to the information available in the case, Jeremy visited his girlfriend earlier that day. She reportedly noticed that he appeared erratic and stressed.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a former high school teacher of Jeremy’s, who lived near Pound Hill Road and Bluff Road, reported seeing him emerge from the woods near her home.
The location was approximately a mile and a half from Jeremy’s new home.
Jeremy reportedly appeared extremely frightened and confused. He told the teacher that “bad guys” were trying to hurt him.
He appeared paranoid and was reportedly acting as though he was experiencing hallucinations or some other form of severe disorientation.
The woman attempted to contact police while her husband tried to keep Jeremy at the location. Before officers arrived, however, Jeremy ran away.
He disappeared into the surrounding area and was never definitively seen again.
Shortly afterward, a motorist reportedly saw Jeremy crossing Route 1. It has not been proven if this was actually Jeremy.
🚐 The following day, Jeremy’s van was discovered in a small parking area off Pound Hill Road.
The vehicle was on property belonging to the Waldo County Humane Society.
Inside the van, investigators found two important items:

But Jeremy himself was nowhere to be found. There was no indication of where he had gone.
Authorities conducted searches of the surrounding area, but those searches failed to locate Jeremy.

Because of the rural environment surrounding Northport and the wooded areas in which he was last seen, investigators and searchers faced significant challenges.
Jeremy had disappeared while reportedly experiencing severe confusion and paranoia, making it difficult to know where he might have gone or what decisions he might have made after leaving the area.
His family has also stated that Jeremy had never previously disappeared without warning.
👤 A Possible Sighting Months Later
One of the most intriguing developments occurred several months after Jeremy disappeared.
In September 2004, a contractor working in Jackson, Maine, approximately 45 minutes from Northport, reported encountering a man who appeared to match Jeremy’s description.
The contractor reportedly saw the man emerge from the woods while working on a house.
The unidentified man reportedly had a sweater tied around his waist.
What made the encounter particularly notable was the man’s behavior.
According to the account, he came out of the woods, but would not speak. He did not appear to understand what was being said to him. He refused an offer of food, and then eventually left the area.
Another person living nearby reportedly encountered the same unidentified man. That witness believed the man could have been Jeremy as well.
According to the account, the man came to the person’s garage but would not answer questions. He eventually walked away after being told to leave.
The sightings were never definitively confirmed as Jeremy. However, they have been described as credible leads.
If the unidentified man was Jeremy, the sighting would mean he may have survived for months after his disappearance and traveled a significant distance from Northport.
🌊 Another unusual piece of the case surfaced years later.
According to the information provided, a couple eventually came into possession of Jeremy’s driver’s license after it reportedly washed ashore in the Belfast area. The couple reportedly found the identification while combing the beach.
Rather than immediately realizing its significance, they kept it for years.
In 2008, after learning that Jeremy was a missing person, they reportedly turned the driver’s license over to authorities.
The discovery raised additional questions about Jeremy’s possible movements and what may have happened to him.
The fact that the identification was reportedly found along the coast has led to continued interest in the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
🧠 One of the most important details surrounding Jeremy’s disappearance is his reported mental and physical condition.
At the time he was last seen, Jeremy was reportedly extremely disoriented, paranoid, and behaving erratically. Information in the case also states that Jeremy had struggled with substance addiction for much of his adult life and may have been under the influence of drugs when he disappeared.
Because of his reported condition, investigators have considered the possibility that Jeremy may have become confused, wandered away, or traveled without understanding where he was going.
At the same time, his family’s concerns about possible foul play have remained part of the case.

Authorities have conducted searches, interviewed witnesses, and followed up on reported sightings. Despite these efforts, no confirmed sighting has established Jeremy’s whereabouts after his disappearance.
No definitive evidence has explained why his van was abandoned, where he went after running from the area, whether the later sightings were actually Jeremy, or how his identification ultimately ended up along the coast.
The case remains unresolved.
The Alex family has also offered a reward for information concerning Jeremy’s disappearance.
The Maine State Police continue to list the case as an active missing-person investigation.
