🕯️ MISSING: ANGEL ANTONIO “TONY” TORRES

📍 Biddeford, Maine
📅 Missing Since: May 21, 1999
🚨 Classification: Endangered Missing
👤 Age: 21

More than 27 years later, Angel Antonio “Tony” Torres remains missing from Maine. His disappearance is considered suspicious, and foul play is suspected.

👤 Who Was Angel?

Angel was a 21-year-old Puerto Rican man who was living in Maine and building a future for himself.

He graduated from Fryeburg Academy, where he played soccer and basketball. In 1999, he was attending Framingham State University in Massachusetts, majoring in business and psychology with a minor in Spanish.

He had recently moved into an apartment in Barre, Massachusetts, with his girlfriend.

His family said Angel loved sports and dreamed of one day owning a sporting goods store. He spoke fluent English and Spanish.

His family knew him as Angel, but he was also known by his nickname, “Tony.”

🌙 The Night Angel Disappeared

Angel was last seen at approximately 2:00 a.m. on May 21, 1999, in Biddeford, Maine.

He and his friend, Jason Anthony “Jay” Carney, had been visiting friends in the Biddeford area. According to accounts of the case, the two had spent several days selling drugs in Biddeford and nearby Saco and Old Orchard Beach.

On the night Angel disappeared, Carney said the two were at a friend’s apartment in Biddeford before leaving to meet customers who were reportedly unhappy with the quality of drugs they had purchased.

Carney later returned to the apartment alone. He was reportedly disheveled and upset.

Carney said he and Angel had walked to the Whistle Stop, a nearby convenience store, around 2:00 a.m.

Angel was reportedly looking for a ride either home to Denmark, Maine, or to North Conway, New Hampshire, which was relatively close to his home.

According to Carney, a man in a red truck was supposed to give Angel a ride.

That was the last known sighting of Angel.

He was never heard from again.

📞 His Family Realized Something Was Wrong

Angel’s family reported him missing on May 24, 1999, after his girlfriend informed them that he had failed to show up for work.

Despite searches and an investigation, Angel has never been found.

❓ A Possible Connection to Another Unsolved Murder

One particularly troubling aspect of Angel’s case involves the unsolved murder of 15-year-old Ashley Erin Ouellette.

Ashley was strangled in Scarborough, Maine, in February 1999 – just a few months before Angel disappeared.

Two of the last people known to have seen Angel, Steven and Daniel Sanborn, were also reportedly among the last people known to have seen Ashley alive. The Sanborn brothers attended high school with Ashley, and Steven had dated her briefly. Ashley had reportedly been at their home on the night she was killed.

Steven and Daniel have been considered possible suspects in Ashley’s murder, but they have never been charged. Ashley’s murder remains unsolved.

Angel had reportedly told his parents that he knew Ashley and that he “pretty much knew who killed her.”

This led to a theory that Angel may have been targeted because of what he allegedly knew about Ashley’s death.

⚠️ However, this connection has never been verified, and it remains only a theory.

💊 Another Theory

Investigators have also considered the possibility that Angel’s disappearance was drug-related.

Authorities have reportedly questioned the account provided by Jason Anthony “Jay” Carney and believed he may have been involved in Angel’s disappearance.

Carney moved to Rhode Island sometime after Angel disappeared. He died in 2015 at the age of 36 from what was suspected to be a drug overdose.

No one has been charged in connection with Angel’s disappearance.
