🚨 MAINE COLD CASE: A Brother’s Discovery Turns Into a Homicide Investigation 🔎
📍 ORLAND, MAINE | JULY 15, 2005
In the quiet blueberry fields of Orland, Maine, a death was discovered that would leave a family searching for answers for years to come.
On the morning of July 15, 2005, Larry Allen went to wake his brother, Brian Allen, for work. The two brothers were staying in a white trailer near the G.M. Allen & Sons blueberry plant, where they worked.
But Brian wouldn’t wake up.
Larry sought help, and emergency responders were called. When investigators entered the bedroom, they found Brian deceased on a cot, with a gunshot wound to his forehead.
A .22-caliber rifle was leaning against the wall beside him. But the scene raised questions, and investigators began looking into the possibility that Brian had been murdered.
⚠️ A GUNSHOT BEFORE DAWN
A nearby resident, Scott Ames, told investigators that he had heard a gunshot sometime between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. that morning.
He also recalled seeing a man walking around the front of the trailer.
Who was the man he saw? Was the gunshot connected to Brian’s death? And what happened during the hours before his body was discovered?
These were among the questions investigators needed to answer.
Brian’s girlfriend of more than five years reportedly told investigators she did not believe he had taken his own life.
His sister, Trista, was equally adamant that her brother’s death was not a suicide.
🔎 A SCENE THAT RAISED MORE QUESTIONS
Investigators noted that the rifle found beside Brian appeared to have been deliberately positioned rather than accidentally dropped.
In the months that followed, Maine State Police conducted extensive investigative work, including searches of nearby waterways and an irrigation pond behind the blueberry operation. Detectives also established a roadblock on Route 15, speaking with approximately 360 drivers and distributing flyers seeking information about the hours surrounding Brian’s death.
Authorities explored several possibilities, including whether someone might have mistaken Brian for his brother, Larry. Even Larry reportedly wondered whether he could have been the intended target.
That possibility was investigated, but the available information does not establish who was responsible or what the motive might have been.
Despite the extensive investigation, critical questions remain unanswered.
💔 BEYOND THE CASE FILE: WHO WAS BRIAN ALLEN?
To his sister, Trista, Brian was so much more than the victim in a homicide investigation.
He was a kind, loving man with an unforgettable laugh. He was someone who would stop to help a stranger stranded on the side of the road. If someone didn’t have enough money for gas, Brian might give them his last five dollars.
He loved his dogs, enjoyed the outdoors, and lived life on his own terms.
Trista and Brian shared a special bond. Although they were nearly 20 years apart in age and didn’t always grow up together, they became important sources of support for one another through some of life’s most difficult moments.
After years of keeping her grief private, Trista decided to speak openly about her brother and the person he truly was.
She doesn’t want Brian remembered only as the man who was murdered in Orland.
She wants people to remember his kindness, his generosity, his laugh, and the way he showed up for others.
🕯️ A SISTER’S PLEA FOR THE TRUTH
For Trista, justice isn’t simply about someone going to prison. It’s about accountability. It’s about hearing the truth from the person responsible for taking her brother’s life.
After all these years, she still wants answers.
Who killed Brian Allen? Why was he shot? And does someone out there know something that could finally help investigators understand what happened inside that trailer on a July morning in 2005?
Brian was a brother, a friend, and a man who mattered deeply to the people who knew him.
His life deserves to be remembered beyond the circumstances of his death.
