🕯️🚗 A Night Out That Ended in Mystery: The Suspicious Death of David Braley 🚗🕯️

On November 10, 1989, 21-year-old David Braley finished his shift at the Goodyear Service Center in Concord, New Hampshire, expecting to head home after work. Instead, his final hours would become the beginning of a mystery that has remained unresolved for decades. David disappeared that night. Four months later, his body was recovered from the icy waters of the Merrimack River, leaving his family devastated and investigators facing troubling questions about what really happened.

David was a young man who loved cars, machinery, and figuring out how things worked. He had pursued technical training in automotive alignment and diagnostics, eventually landing a job he genuinely enjoyed as an alignment specialist at Goodyear. He had been working there for about six months, and his family believed he was making meaningful changes in his life.

David had struggled with alcohol in his late teens and early twenties, but his loved ones said he was working hard to turn things around. His mother, Elaine Braley, later recalled that he had found a job he loved and that the family believed he was staying sober. He was living with his parents, volunteering at a healthcare center in Laconia, and helping with a Halloween display at the Belmont Mall. He was trying to build a better future.

On the evening he vanished, David finished work around 6 p.m. and accepted an invitation from a coworker and friend to get something to eat. They went to the Hawaiian Isle Restaurant before parting ways around 7:30 p.m. David said he was heading home to Belmont, but he never arrived.

Instead, David stopped at the May King Restaurant & Bar in Concord. A bartender saw him drinking with two men whose identities were never established. David was known to be friendly and comfortable striking up conversations, so it remains unclear how he met the pair or how well he knew them.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., a waitress saw David leave the restaurant with the two men. Around 10 p.m., all three arrived at Take 5 Music Hall, a nightclub in Concord. David was still wearing his Goodyear work uniform.

Less than an hour later, security escorted David out of the club for reportedly being disruptive. The exact circumstances remain unclear. Once outside, David pleaded to be allowed back in, explaining that his ride was still inside. He appeared to be referring to one of the men he had arrived with, yet neither man came outside to accompany him.

What happened next remains one of the most troubling parts of the case.

After leaving the entrance, David reportedly struck a car, drawing the attention of security. By the time staff checked on the situation, he was gone. Witnesses reported seeing him run into the woods behind Take 5 Music Hall and a neighboring racquetball club. The area near Garvins Falls Road became the last known location where anyone reported seeing David alive.

He was never seen again.

David was reported missing on November 12, 1989. Initially, investigators considered the possibility that he had simply failed to return home after drinking. But as the days turned into weeks, his family was left with no explanation for his disappearance. They searched, distributed his photograph, and waited desperately for news.

Then, on March 18, 1990, a person on the western bank of the Merrimack River near Stark Lane in Manchester noticed a body caught among broken ice.

The remains were recovered and taken for examination. The clothing, including work boots, dark blue pants, and a light blue shirt, matched what David was believed to have been wearing when he disappeared. On March 20, dental records confirmed the heartbreaking truth: the body belonged to David Braley.

He had been found approximately 18 miles downriver from where he was last seen alive.

For his family, the discovery ended the agonizing uncertainty of not knowing where David was, but it did not bring the answers they desperately needed. What had happened during those final hours? How had a young man who was expected to go home after a night out ended up in the river?

The medical examiner noted trauma, particularly around David’s head, but the condition of the remains made it impossible to determine a definitive cause of death. Both the cause and manner of death were ultimately classified as undetermined. The circumstances, however, raised serious concerns, and authorities described the case as suspicious.

Investigators came to believe that David may have been involved in an altercation behind the nightclub and suffered a severe beating before his body was placed in the river. His mother, Elaine, also believed her son had been attacked near the club. During her own efforts to uncover the truth, she repeatedly returned to Take 5, speaking with patrons and staff in the hope that someone would share information that could explain what happened.

One encounter gave her a reason to keep searching. Elaine later recounted that a woman approached her and claimed a friend knew who was responsible for David’s death. According to the woman, that person had allegedly bragged about what happened. Elaine was told the friend would contact police, but no one ever came forward with the promised information.

It was a lead that offered hope but never provided the answers David’s family needed.

And one question continues to stand out: Who were the two men David was with that night?

They were reportedly seen drinking with him at the May King Restaurant, leaving with him, and arriving alongside him at Take 5 Music Hall. Yet when David was escorted out, they remained inside. Their identities have never been established publicly, and their connection to David and his final hours remains unclear.

There is no confirmed evidence establishing that either man was responsible for David’s death. Still, identifying them and learning what they witnessed could be crucial to understanding the events of that night.

David was only 21 years old. He was a son, a friend, and a young man working to put his life on a better path. His family believed he was making progress and building something for himself. He deserved the opportunity to continue that journey, and his loved ones deserved the chance to see him come home safely.

More than three decades have passed since David disappeared, but the questions surrounding his death remain. His case has not been forgotten, and even one person coming forward with information could help investigators piece together what happened.

💔 Were you at Take 5 Music Hall in Concord on November 10, 1989? Did you know David, recognize the two men he was with, or hear something about his disappearance in the months that followed?

Someone may remember a conversation, an encounter, or a detail that seemed unimportant at the time. That information could matter today.
