The Missing

Martin George Crumblish Jr.

Dogs Ferry, New York

🔍 Missing: Martin George Crumblish Jr. 🔍

Martin George Crumblish Jr., known to friends and family as “J.R.,” was just 17 years old when he disappeared from Dobbs Ferry, New York, on May 3, 1981. A white male with blond hair and blue-green eyes, Martin stood 6 feet tall and weighed approximately 165 pounds. He had several distinguishing features, including a slight cleft in his chin, a noticeable gap between his upper front teeth, and long hair at the time of his disappearance. Martin also had a history of substance abuse.

On the evening he vanished, Martin attended a party near the Hudson River at a popular gathering spot known as “The View.” Around 11:00 p.m., he walked a female friend home before returning to the party. At approximately midnight, he left again with four other individuals and headed toward a friend’s house on Myrtle Avenue. What happened after that remains unknown, and Martin has never been seen or heard from again.

At the time, Martin was a junior at Dobbs Ferry High School and was staying with a friend because he planned to take the SAT exam the following day. Described as sensitive, artistic, and popular among his peers, he enjoyed writing poetry and participated in both football and basketball. Although he struggled with alcohol and drug use, those close to him do not believe he ran away. Family members noted that he was excited about a new job and would not have abandoned it without contacting his loved ones. Supporting that belief, Martin left behind his Social Security card, and there has been no activity associated with his Social Security number since his disappearance.

In the months leading up to his disappearance, Martin’s family had attempted to help him address his behavioral and substance abuse issues. He briefly lived with his father in California before returning to New York, and about ten days before he vanished, he moved in with his aunt and uncle in Yorktown, New York. Despite these challenges, his family remained hopeful that he was moving in a positive direction.

More than two decades later, in 2002, authorities reclassified Martin’s case from a missing person investigation to a probable homicide. Investigators believe he may have been involved in an altercation with local youths and was possibly killed, perhaps accidentally, shortly after he was last seen. Multiple searches have been conducted in the area over the years, but no trace of Martin has ever been found. His case remains unsolved, and both of his parents, who are still living, continue to seek answers and hope for resolution.
