On the cold evening of January 22, 2010, 7-year-old Patrick Kennedy Alford Jr., affectionately known as “Lil Pee,” disappeared without a trace from his foster home in Brooklyn, New York. More than a decade later, the question that continues to haunt his family and investigators remains painfully unanswered: Where is Patrick?
Patrick had been living in foster care for only three weeks after being removed from the custody of his mother, Jennifer Rodriguez, and his younger sister was also placed into care. According to those closest to him, Patrick struggled deeply with the separation. He suffered from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), was not taking medication at the time, and was reportedly showing signs of emotional distress severe enough that a psychiatric evaluation had been recommended. Family members described a little boy who desperately wanted to go home.
On the night he vanished, Patrick was helping his foster mother with household chores at the Spring Creek Development, also known as Starrett City, on Vandalia Avenue. He took the trash outside around 9:00 p.m. and never returned. His foster mother later told investigators she looked away for only a moment before realizing Patrick had disappeared. Police tracked his scent to a nearby bus stop, suggesting he had left the apartment building, but from that point forward the trail went cold. No confirmed sightings have ever been made.
Patrick had reportedly told his foster mother that he intended to run away so he could reunite with his mother. Jennifer Rodriguez has always maintained that she never abducted her son and believes he left on his own. In the days following his disappearance, she was ordered by a family court judge to produce Patrick, but she insisted she had no idea where he was. She was briefly jailed for contempt before being released after passing a polygraph examination. Over the years, accusations and suspicions spread throughout Patrick’s extended family, with relatives accusing one another of hiding him, yet no evidence has ever led investigators to Patrick’s whereabouts.
Determined to find answers, Patrick’s parents pursued legal action against New York City, the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), and others involved in his placement. They alleged negligence, claiming Patrick should never have been placed in a foster home where communication barriers existed and where he had repeatedly expressed his desperation to return home. Jennifer Rodriguez said Patrick cried constantly, acted out emotionally, threw chairs, and begged, “I want to come home, Mommy.” After years of litigation, the lawsuit was settled in 2018 for $6 million, with the funds set aside to continue searching for Patrick and to support him should he ever be found alive.
The heartbreak surrounding Patrick’s disappearance never ended. His father, Patrick Alford Sr., endured unimaginable tragedy after being shot multiple times in 2012 by men who believed he possessed reward money connected to his son’s case, leaving him partially paralyzed. Despite his injuries, he never stopped searching for Patrick until his own passing in 2025. He died without knowing what happened to his little boy.
Today, Patrick would be an adult. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has released age-progressed images showing what he may look like now. His mother continues to hope that one day she will finally learn the truth and, against all odds, embrace her son again.
When Patrick disappeared, he was 4’8″ tall, weighed about 65 pounds, and had black hair, brown eyes, a scar on his left eyebrow, and a birthmark on his abdomen. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, red T-shirt, blue jeans, and black-and-white Michael Jordan sneakers.
Patrick’s disappearance remains an unsolved endangered missing child case. Someone, somewhere, may remember seeing a frightened little boy that winter night or may know information that has never been shared. Even the smallest detail could be the missing piece that finally brings answers after all these years.
