🕊️💔 She Deserves Her Name Back: Collier County Jane Doe ⚖️🌹
For nearly half a century, she has been known only as “Jane Doe.” Before she became an unidentified homicide victim, she was someone’s daughter, sister, friend, or loved one, a woman with a name, a life, and people who may still be wondering what happened to her.
On June 3, 1978, her body was discovered in a shallow grave hidden beneath brush near Florida State Road 29, just south of the Interstate 75 (Alligator Alley) interchange in Collier County, Florida. In an apparent attempt to conceal the crime, her body had been covered with hydrated lime (caustic lime), a substance commonly used in construction materials such as cement and mortar, as well as in agriculture. The medical examiner determined that she had died from blunt force trauma to the head, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators believe the victim was a White woman between 40 and 60 years old, standing approximately 5’0″ to 5’5″ tall and weighing about 176 pounds. She had brown hair and was found without clothing or jewelry. Although the color of her eyes could not be determined, one detail has stood out to investigators for decades, her extensive dental work.
The woman had multiple high-quality porcelain-fused-to-metal (Ceramco) dental bridges, and experts estimate the dental procedures had been completed approximately two years before her death. Her teeth showed very little evidence of periodontal disease, suggesting she had received consistent dental care. Investigators believe these distinctive dental characteristics could be the key to identifying her and reconnecting her with the name that has been lost for nearly 50 years.
Someone knew this woman. Someone noticed when she stopped calling, stopped visiting, or simply disappeared. Her family may still be searching, never realizing that she has remained unidentified all these years. She deserves more than the label of “Jane Doe.” She deserves to have her identity restored, her story told, and justice for the person who ended her life.
